Hales unbeaten streak over!

Old Hales mens 1st XI fell at the final hurdle with an unbeaten run of 8 pre-season fixtures coming to an end at the end of a well organised and marshalled Warwick side on a fast surface at Warwick School. Hales struggled to start well in the game with a mobile Warwick midfield causing problems for an Old Hales side who were dominant in possession but struggled to get the ball out from the back and made too many simple mistakes in key areas of the pitch. Reduced to 12 men after 10 minutes due to two leg injuries to drag flicker Tom Durnford & defender Ben Hughes, Old Hales struggled to match the legs of a hard working Warwick side and found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes through a well worked team finish. Both teams had chances through the rest of the half but neither could covert.

Hales started the second half brighter and were dominant in possession but still struggled to break down a determined Warwick side. Following a break away counter attack goalkeeper Steve Charlton was adjudged to have brought down a Warwick player illegally and a penalty stroke was controversially awarded and a Yellow card was issued to Charlton. Centre Back Paul Woodall boldly stepped up to face down the stroke but was beaten convincingly by the opposition player. Spurred on by the decision, Hales saw out the yellow card denying the home side the chance to capitalise on the lack of goalkeeper. Five minutes from time Woodall threw an ariel to captain Cole Hickman who exchanged a quick 1-2 with Chris Hill along the baseline before half-volleying his own rebound past the keeper. Unfortunately this proved too little too late for Hales who went home disappointed.

Hales look forward to starting their campaign against Bridgnoth at home next weekend.
